Thanks for bringing on this guest! As a former teacher myself I was particularly interested in what she had to say. I liked that she emphasized prioritizing the wellbeing of the whole over individual identity groups and that multiculturalism needs to be managed. You asked great questions Winston that I noticed she had a hard time articulating an answer to or skirted around a bit... like how do you define what being British means? Is it place and knowledge of history and a shared set of values? And isn't it innately embedded with christian values? So to what degree are you actually being multi-cultural and to what degree are you creating a shared culture or asking people to assimilate into yours?
Things I took away: Yes shaping kids = shaping the culture of our future and it's important to habituate getting along...yes there needs to be a middle ground approach between L and R opinions, both extremes are blind to certain things...
Things I'm not sure about: schools are a bit of a microcosm of the macrocosm, but only to a certain extent. There are many things you can do in a school with the authority you have that you can't do on a community level let alone on a national level. Hard thing to translate, but kudos to anyone who tries
God bless and protect you, Winston Marshall
