I'm a tenant in a small farm cottage. If this is not stopped I might loose my home of over 30years, as my Farmer Landlord may have to sell the farm to pay this incompetent Labour government. I did not vote for this lot along with millions of others. They have to GO!
It looks like the Treasury and the OBR are about to end up with egg on their faces. It appears that the Treasury figures which the OBR worked on included small holdings and non-productive land, essentially categorising a huge number of rural properties as family farms, when they really weren't.
As a general rule, and with a few notable exceptions, if the property is under 100 acres of productive land, it's not really a family farm. This made it look as though a far smaller percentage of the small farms that feed the nation would be affected than actually will be. The Treasury data was wrong. Garbage in. Garbage Out.
The DEFRA figures are more accurate, reflecting their longer working relationship with, and more detailed knowledge of, the farming sector. Their data shows that only 34% of farms will fall below the threshold. I'm surprised the figure is even that high- between the farm buildings and land which generally fall under APR rather than BPR, I would have thought a married couples new APR allowance really wouldn't cover the value of the assets.
I'm betting there are a huge number of people who've bought a farmhouse and 20 acres and lease the 20 acres to a tenant who already farms another farm.
An excellent article Winston. The simple fact is that Labour see farmers as unimportant and worse examples of white, male supremacy. The Labour mask slipped when John McTiernan admitted this on GB News. At best Labour think farms can be concreted over and solar panels put in place of crops. At worse just build a pile of social housing for the net 500k immigrants coming in annually. Yes we need more housing but not at the expense of food production and security.

My father in law was praised for his farming skills after WW2. Shame on Starmer that following generations will be deleted.
All globalists grab worldwide
Control control control
We must fight to stop this
Our food supply is being poisoned already
Imagine what they have planned for us!!!
How convenient that the people of Great Britain are essentially unarmed.

Outstanding Performance & explained in a way anyone can understand. Huge thanks & respect to you Winston 👏
The intellectual disconnect & dishonesty to understand that farmers use their the land to grow food & to feed livestock is astonishing.
Perhaps the farmers need to start a crowdfunding project whereby the public can help fund their businesses.
They could start volunteer schemes - like the kibbutz used to do & maybe look at the moshav to restore & upgrade the need for farmers.
Starmer and his chum.
