There are notable differences in the Women’s Rights/Trans Rights movement in the UK and US. Here in the UK the issue seems to have riven traditional left-right political groups. The Labour Party leader Sir Keir Starmer has claimed it is wrong to say “only women have a cervix”, whilst Labour MP Rosie Duffield faced bullying for “asking why it was “transphobic” to say that only women have a cervix”.
PM Rishi Sunak has no problem stating that a woman is an “adult human female” but his Conservative Party also has the only transgender MP, Jamie Wallis. SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon recently resigned as a consequence of the slump in polls for her position on the issue, specifically with regards to transgender rapist Isla Bryson.
Outspoken “TERFs” in Britain include many, perhaps mostly, women traditionally from the left of politics - J.K. Rowling, Suzanne Moore, Julie Bindel. Traditional feminists now being classed as “right-wing” for defending women.
In America, at first glance, a different story has played out. The debate has landed more comfortably (although imperfectly) on the traditional conservative-progressive divide. And one of the leading voices on the issue is commentator, author, film-maker and activist Matt Walsh.
Walsh’s film ‘What is a Woman’, released last summer for Daily Wire subscribers has made a big old splash…
Matt has been on the forefront of the debate defending women’s spaces, protesting the harm caused to children and standing up for what he believes is the denial of truth.
In exchange for a banjo lesson (watch this space), Matt kindly spoke with me on Marshall Matters. We discussed the impact of the film and the nature of the debate in the US at the moment. I asked about Transgender TicTok personality Dylan Mulvaney. Matt has slammed Mulvaney as “weird”, “artificial”, “unearthly” and “eerie” on his show…
Matt claimed, before my arrival, that those who thought his treatment of Mulvaney was “mean” were a part of the problem themselves. So I asked him how I was a part of the problem.
All this and more…

And a special thanks to Matt’s team and the Daily Wire for allowing Marshall Matters to use their facilities and production.
You should talk to Kara Dansky, long time left feminist activist (author, The Abolition of Sex; also see https://karadansky.substack.com/). Despite what Walsh claims, feminists have been fighting gender identity ideology for years, long before the right entered the fray. I'm glad more people are talking about the issue, irrespective of political leanings. This is not a political issue, after all, but a moral one.
I enjoyed this conversation. I liked how you challenged his response but how you each allowed the other to explain your perspectives. Well done Win! Excited to see the banjo lesson. I was listening to TSP the other day and your guitar playing made me smile 😊
