Matthew Goodwin, author of the bestseller ‘Values, Voice and Virtue: The New British Politics’ talks to me about the divide in British politics between cosmopolitans and traditionalists, the controversy surrounding the National Conservative Conference, and the future of the Conservative and Labour parties.
Thirteen years of Conservative Party rule has seen immigration skyrocketing and forecast to hit 1 million net in 2023, the housing crisis out of control, falling fertility rates, rising inflation. But will Labour be much better? Goodwin argues the same types of people dominate both parties - the cosmopolitans. And those people are out of touch with the traditionalists.
Goodwin also spoke at the National Conservative Conference in London the week we spoke. He decried the damage done by ultra-free traders. We took a look at the conference, the controversy surrounding it and what it means to be a national conservative.
I know few people as insightful on British politics today as Matthew and am sure you will find this interview enriching and insightful.
