Tony Diver on the UK Government's Covid Censorship

We’ve heard all about the interchange between the American government and Big Tech to censor voices through the pandemic. Well it turns out the British government were up to the same tricks. Yes, here in Britain, birthplace of Liberal thought and the founding fathers of Free Speech - Locke, Mill, Milton - the government, a Conservative government, were reporting dissenting voices to the American social media companies, so that they might be censored.

We knew some of this already, as exposed by Isabel Oakeshott earlier this year, then-Health Security Matt Hancock was in touch with social media platforms as early as January 2020 to “tweak the algorithms”.

Tony Diver was part of The Telegraph’s investigations team which, earlier this month, revealed how the government had a secret unit - the Counter Disinformation Unit, monitoring social media and requesting tech platforms silence voices that went against government narrative. They, along with the Counter-Disinformation Policy Forum and the Rapid Response Unit, were the British arm the censorship industrial complex.

Tony came in to explain how and why these outfits operated.
