Marshall Matters is back. The podcast where I speak to heterodox thinkers on difficult and taboo topics in an age when difficult and taboo topics abound.
Episode 23, and the first episode of 2023, is with environmentalist Bjorn Lomborg on the coming climate apocalypse.
The end is nigh! Or so we are perpetually told. We must change our ways before we step beyond the point of no return. World leaders have just spent a week chinwagging in the alpine chalets of Davos and their agenda has been explicitly clear: climate catastrophe is priority number one.
But is there really a crisis? And are policies like Net Zero and the Paris Agreement commitments for better or worse?
In his book False Alarm, Bjorn argues that green pathways proffered by environmentalists, such as the IPCC, will cause 3 million deaths a year more than the fossil fuel pathway. That they will lead to 26 million more extreme poor every year, and will cost a staggering 509 trillion dollars a year. He warns that “by insisting on cutting carbon through climate policies that push up food prices, instead of taking a broader view of how to best help people and the planet, we will have consigned 54 million more people to starvation”.
How is it that an environmentalist like Bjorn can agree with climate alarmists that the Earth is indeed warming because of human activity but come to such drastically different conclusions about its consequences and how to deal with them?
Is Bjorn a climate-alarmist-alarmist or a voice of reason in this ever heating topic?
We also dig into his alternative Sustainable Development Goals, which he has written about recently.
We discuss his book, climate policies, the future of energy and much more.
What is the truth about climate change?
