I love the idea that you can take on the history and culture of a country in order to be of that culture. As someone of Irish/ Italian descent I’ve always said that I’m British but not English. But I love the history and culture of England and would be proud to call myself English despite also being proud of my Irish / Italian heritage. So thanks Winston, that’s a very positive attitude and gives us hope for the future.

Thank you, I appreciate this talk. Winston is so well-spoken. I think he's correct about the First Amendment. There's no doubt that the design of our own govt in the US was inspired by the same reasons that led to revolution as colonists.

What was scary was Keir Starmer, in response to JD Vance’s remarks about Free Speech, declaring lustily in the Oval Office yesterday that we’d had Free Speech for a long time in our country and would have in the future. We all know this is no longer true, including JD Vance! I fear for the future. I trust Leo has joined Toby Young’s Free Speech Union.

Allison Pearson’s intention to sue Essex Police for turning up on her doorstep on Remembrance Sunday, of all days, about a tweet she had made will be an interesting. She’s only putting herself through this in support of all those other unfortunate individuals who have been terrified by this draconian action for a supposedly non crime hate incident. The outcome will be of great importance to innocent social media users!

(Allison Pearson writes for The Daily

Telegraph and shares an unmissable podcast with economist and fellow Telegraph journalist, Liam Halligan, called Planet Normal!)
