Democrats Want to Forget This Insurrection
Is There A Progressive Double-Standard?
Last week marked the four-year anniversary of the start of the Portland Riots. Over 120 consecutive nights of violence and mob rule which escalated to insurrection of the Portland Federal Court House. Protestors used fireworks, Molotov cocktails and other weapons and even tried to burn down the building whilst officers were inside.
Despite how much establishment Democrats bring up insurrection, the Portland insurrection seems to have been memory-holed. How convenient.
But this wasn’t always the case. At the time, the riots weren’t just supported by the American left, politicians published apologia for them. Nancy Pelosi even described it as simply “graffiti”.
The “Summer of Love”, when at least 25 people were killed in political unrest from coast to coast, was documented at the time in Andy Ngo’s New York Times Bestseller ‘Unmasked’ (I hear its quite controversial). This year former New York Times journalist Nellie Bowles published ‘Morning After The Revolution’. This book also examines what happened through the bloody riots in the wake of the George Floyd death.
Isn’t it time the insurrection in Portland was given a proper reckoning? Or is it too soon for Democrats to admit what evil they supported? Whilst Trump might still return to The White House I suspect Democrats will not cede ground.
So until then, here is a deep dive I took into those dark days in the progressive utopia of Portland.
Is there a Democrat double-standard?
IMO it was the permissiveness of ‘20 riots-particularly towards the violence perpetrated on business owners & citizens who were just trying to live their life- that seemed to dominate cities across America that contributed to the riot on Jan6.
It would really be interesting to hear from any of those business owners, wrong place wrong time innocent bystanders etc, affected by the violence & destruction caused by the rioters -Has Congress ever had THAT hearing?
We need more of this type of analysis for blatant hypocrisy
